Mrs. Agnes Bruce, 98 of Boston passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Presbyterian Home Quitman. Mrs. Bruce was born February 12, 1920 to the late Clark Howell Peek and Cannie Rhodes Peek. She helped her husband run their small grocery store in Quitman for several years before working a few years for Southwestern State Hospital and a short time at the Presbyterian Home, but her longest and most important job was as a loving wife, mother and granny. Mrs. Bruce was a member of the Church of Christ and loved growing flowers, vegetables and cooking.
Survivors include her two sons, Robert (Tempy) Bruce, Jr. of Boston, and Allan (Joni) Bruce of Warner Robins, GA.; 17 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Mrs. Bruce was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Bruce, Sr., son, James Albert Bruce; daughters, Fay Bruce Edmondson, and Carolyn Bruce Spell; grandchildren, Tanny James Bruce, and Pam Spell Ellis; great grandchild, Angelica Bruce; four brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Maxwell-Purvis Funeral Home with Pastor Kirk Beckham officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Maxwell-Purvis Funeral Home.
