Christine Collins Obituary

Rachel Christine Taylor Collins died May 17, 2018 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. She was born to Philip and Julia Christian Taylor on August 3, 1923 in Brooks County, GA. where she lived most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Lee Collins, Jr., a son Robert Lee Collins III, a brother James Philip Taylor, and a sister Julia Bess Taylor.

Christine Collins was a bookkeeper with Suwannee Swifty Stores, Inc. where she retired in 1989. As a member of Beulah Baptist Church, she taught children’s Sunday School, and served as chairman of the social committee. She was a member of the Brooks County Historic Museum and the Friends of the Brooks County Library. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the American Camellia Society. There she had recently registered two of her own camellias, both of which were named for her father. Also she had a camellia seedling grown by her brother named in her honor.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Julia Collins Hilliard and Larry of Quitman, GA, Carol Collins Selph and Jerry of Suwannee, FL; her grandchildren Christina Fagan DiTomasso, Elizabeth Renfroe, Rachel Collins Rehberg, Leigh Ann Selph Flowers, Carla Hilliard York, Keith Hilliard, Kelly Hilliard, Joseph Collins, and Amber Collins Youmans; and ten great grandchildren. She also leaves two sister-in-laws Dorothy Shaw and Charlotte Collins.

Graveside services will be held Monday, May 21, 2018  at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mike Davis officiating.  The family will be receiving friends Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Maxwell-Purvis Funeral Home.
