Mr. Harold Eugene Rambo, Sr. passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in Arlington, Virginia. Harold was born in the family home near Nankin, Georgia on August 21, 1933, to William Bunting "WillieB" Rambo and Susan "Susie" Collins Rambo. The middle child, he is predeceased by his two brothers John William Rambo and James Alan Rambo.
Harold was drafted and served two years in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, remaining in the United States, though, only through a paperwork glitch. As a result, he was assigned to the famous 101st Airborne Division as a communications officer. Harold was married to Elizabeth Annette Simpson of Dixie, Georgia in 1959. They were married for 13 years. He is survived by their children, son Harold Eugene Rambo, Jr. "Gene", his wife Karen Book Rambo, and their son William Benjamin Rambo, age 15 (Will – also a WillieB) of Falls Church, Virginia, and daughter, Kelly Rambo Luke and her daughter Houston Elizabeth Luke, age 24, of Peachtree Corners, Georgia. Harold retired from the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation in April, 2019 (still working at 85!) where he worked in dispute resolution in the Bureau of Condominiums. He was an active member of the Toastmaster’s Club in Tallahassee for many years. Harold recently moved to Northern Virginia to be near his son and his family. Harold was a lifelong member of the Beulah Baptist Church in Nankin, Georgia founded in 1880, where his father was ordained deacon in 1943.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Maxwell-Purvis Funeral Home in Quitman, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Beulah Baptist Church, 255 Beulah Church Road, Quitman, GA 31643. In the alternative, please donate to the charity of your choice in Harold’s name.
