Larry Mitchell Obituary

Mr. Lawrence "Larry" Mitchell passed away February 17, 2019 at South Georgia Medical Center.  Mr. Mitchell was born July 27, 1942 in Quitman, Ga to the late James Alexander and Lillian Herring Mitchell.  Larry was in the first graduating class of Brooks County High School.  He was in the National Guard and later attended Valdosta State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.  After graduation he worked for Simmons CPA in Thomasville and Robert Goddard in Valdosta before opening his own office in Quitman, where he worked as a certified Public Accountant for over 40 years.

Survivors include his sister, Martha Butler of Quitman; nephews, Hunter Walker of Pace, Fl, Jim Walker of Goldsboro, N.C., Chris Walker of Alabaster, AL, Wes Butler of Memphis Tn.; niece, Dollie Walker of Birmingham, Al; and very special friends, Beverly Rogers, Gary Ziegler, Dottie Aikens, and Art Hughes, who have all been so caring and supportive of Larry over the years.  Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his twin brother, Lanny Mitchell; his older brother, James Vincent Mitchell; and sister, Emily Mitchell Walker.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Arnold Hodum officiating.  The family will be receiving friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Maxwell - Purvis Funeral Home.  The family will be at the home of Larry's sister, Martha Butler, 10698 Dry Lake Rd.,Quitman, GA  31643.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Quitman United Methodist Church Monday Morning Prayer Group, P O Box 857, Quitman, GA  31643.
