Virginia Mitchell Obituary

Virginia Johnson Mitchell was born September 5,1919 to David Daniel Johnson and Magdalene Virginia Nicks Johnson.  She lived her entire life in Brooks County Georgia and married Reuben Jasper Mitchell in1940 and had a wonderful life together for 68 yrs.  Together they owned and operated Mitchell's East End Super Market opening in 1942. RJ met Virginia while he was operating one of his 5 rolling stores that he operated until 1955.   After running the store for 45 years, they decided to retire to their farm and raise Brangus cattle and enjoy time with their extended family and friends.  They enjoyed hosting family gatherings and working in church activities at Morrison Baptist Church, Hickory Head Church, and Northside Baptist  Church,  Virginia and R.J.. taught Sunday School for many years and also loved to participate in choral worship activities.   She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Magdalene Johnson, husband Rueben Jasper Mitchell, brothers Wilson Johnson, Charles William Johnson and Nona Mae Johnson, and sister Ada Lee Coffee and Plemon, sisters in law Ola Lee Williams Jones, Velma Godwin and Louise Hilton. She is survived by a brother James Turner Johnson, sisters in law  Estelle Thornhill, Dorothy Williams and Rosalyn LaBove many nieces and nephews , great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews   . Virginia departed this earth December 11, 2018 to join her loved ones.  She will be greatly missed by family and those who treasured their memories of her.  She was truly an inspiration to us all.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Harris officiating.  The family will be receiving friends Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Maxwell-Purvis Funeral Home.
