William Dukes, Jr.

Mr. William Dukes, Jr. 78 of Quitman passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at his residence after a lengthy illness.  Mr. Dukes was born May 31, 1940 to the late Charlie William Dukes, Sr., and Minnie Sue Blalock Dukes.  He served in the United States Army, and worked with the United States Postal Service before he retired.  

Survivors include his wife, Matilda Waters Dukes of Quitman; children, Charlie (Tanja) Dukes, III of Quitman, Holly (Jeff) Schools of Ray City, and Mary (Jody) Peterman of Lake Park; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Hunter) Dukes Allyn, Clay Schools, Jacob Dukes, Liam Peterman, Nathan Dukes, Cale Schools, J. D. Peterman, Lane Peterman, and Roxanne Peterman; great grandchild, Mack Allyn; one brother, Russell H. (Patricia) Dukes of St. Johns, FL.  Mr. Dukes was preceded in death by his three sisters, Laura Mae Dukes Elswick, Helen Virginia Dukes Thomas, and Mary Nell Dukes.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Hickory Head Baptist Church with Rev. John Cone officiating.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Maxwell-Purvis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association, Attn: Donations, P.
