Mrs. Carolyn Yates McDonald, 84, of Quitman passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 at her residence. Mrs. McDonald was born April 26, 1938 to the late Jack Clower Yates and Emma Zoe Miller Yates. She was a life long resident of Brooks County. Mrs. McDonald graduated from Barwick High School and married her late husband, Eugene Carter McDonald, Sr in November 1956. Mrs. McDonald later attended nursing school at Thomasville Technical School and graduated as a LPN in 1967. She retired from Brooks County Hospital after 32 years. She was truly dedicated to all her patients, providing them with the best care. Mrs. McDonald enjoyed teaching the younger nurses how to perform procedures and care for patients. She loved fishing, having fish fry’s and camping at her family farm in Barwick when her grandchildren were growing up. After retirement, you could find her and her late husband in Keaton Beach most weekends fishing. She loved to go shopping at thrift stores with her sisters, she loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time sitting on her back porch socializing with friends and family. Mrs. McDonald was a member of Okapilco Baptist Church. She loved her dog, Dixie, whom passed a week prior to Mrs. McDonald.
Survivors include her children of Quitman, Eugene “Carter”, (Sandra) McDonald, Jr., Sara Ann Rich, Martitia (Donnie) Warren; grandchildren, Eugene Carter “Chad” (Leah) McDonald, III, Brant (Kimberly) McDonald, Leah (Russ) Butler, Leslie (Derrick) Williams, Keith Williams, Landon Green and Lauren Warren; Great Grandchildren, Hudson & Reese McDonald, Henry McDonald, Nova Claire Graham and Easton Butler; a very special nephew, Anthony McDonald (Emery Cates); one sister, Shirley Yates Lawson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband, Gene McDonald, Sr.; and 2 sisters, her identical twin, Marilyn Yates McDonald and Sarah Yates Powell.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Pastor Ron Spivey officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the graveside service.
