Jack Tanner, Sr. Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband and father, Jack B. Tanner, Sr. on January 10, 2021 at Fellowship Home.  He was born April 15, 1932 on his grandfather Norman’s farm in Norman Park, GA. He was preceded in his death by his parents, Joe and Laura Norman Tanner. The family moved to Moultrie, GA and Jack graduated from Moultrie High School and the University of Georgia Pharmacy School where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the ROTC.  He did his internship in Quitman at Glausier’s Pharmacy.  Dr. Glausier promised to sell the store to Jack after his two years in the Army as a First Lieutenant medic.  After he finished his Army duty, he did some relief work at a large drugstore in Columbus, GA and while working in Columbus, he met his future wife Pat Massey.  They married October 20, 1956 and moved to Quitman.  They bought Glausier’s Pharmacy in 1960 and operated Tanner’s Pharmacy for 25 years.  After retirement, he operated a rental business and enjoyed reading, researching World War II, collecting antiques and collecting Native American artifacts.  Jack passed away in his 88th year and all who knew him will never forget his gentle spirit and kind heart.

The family would like to thank the Fellowship Home at Brookside for their great care in the final years of his life.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Joe Lee Tanner and wife Ruth Tanner of Norman Park.  Jack is survived by his wife Pat Tanner of Quitman, his son Chip Tanner and wife Suzanne, his son Joey Tanner, and his granddaughter Victoria Tanner. He will be missed by his brother-in-law Jeff Massey and wife Cheryl of Valdosta, his nieces Andrea Strom, Plymouth,  Ohio, Lynn Odum, Asburn, GA, Nancy Wilkes, Norman Park, GA, Mary Key, Tifton, GA and nephew Jerry Tanner, High Springs, FL.

The family will have a private graveside service at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be made to Quitman Church of God Building Fund for a community gymnasium and service center for Quitman residents.  The mailing address is Quitman Church of God P.O. Box  956 Quitman, GA 31643.
