Mr. James D. Tucker, 92 of Quitman passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family, on March 30, 2020. Mr. Tucker was born in Colquitt County on June 21, 1927 to the late Queen Esther Chapman Tucker and James Cleveland Tucker. He was a devoted husband for 67 years and a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was affectionately known by friends and family as "Papa T". He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and had a great appreciation for the world of nature. One of his pleasures was to fish, surrounded by many of his family and friends on the dock of the family pond. Later the same day they would all gather for his delicious fried fish with all the trimmings. Mr. Tucker was a wise and successful farmer who worked hard all his life to faithfully support and care for those he loved. He had an excellent work ethic which he passed on to his children. He valued education and made sure all three of his children had the opportunity to attend and finish college. He achieved his goal of leaving debt free land for his family to roam and enjoy just as he had done. Mr. Tucker had a strong faith in Christ and was a dedicated member of Boston Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his children, Dennis (Tina) Tucker of Dixie, Linda J. Rudisill of Quitman, and Ben (Kristin) Tucker of Adel; grandchildren, Mary (Eric) Brubaker, Heather Grizzle, Autumn Tucker, Kimberly (Travis) Bazemore, Jim Tucker, Kelly (Sorin) Sage, and Kyle Tucker, great grandchildren, Noah Vaughn, Eli McDaniel, Davey Grizzle, Jada Sanders, Anavah Brubaker, Jachin Brubaker, Logan Bazemore, and Audrey Jane Bazemore; one sister, Peggy Tucker Bier of Vienna, Virginia. A private graveside service for immediate family only will be held Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Boston Cemetery. When conditions related to the COVID-19 Pandemic allow, a public memorial service will be announced on the funeral home website.
