Sgt. Joshua "Josh" Wade Weeks, 31 of Adel passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021. Sgt. Weeks was born September 12, 1989 in Thomasville and served in the United States Army from June 5, 2009 to April 11, 2017 with a honorable discharge and received his purple heart in October 2017. He started as a detention officer in 2010 and became a deputy in 2013. In 2015, he was hired at the Adel Police Department, after completing certification at the South Georgia Regional Police Academy. Prior to his employment with the Adel Police Department, he worked as a Jail Officer and Deputy Sheriff for the Cook County Sheriff's Office. Sgt. Weeks quickly rose through the ranks at the Police Department from Patrol Officer to his current rank as a Sergeant and Shift Commander.
Sgt. Weeks shouldered many important responsibilities at his agency to include Special Weapons and Tactis (S.W.A.T.) Commander. Most importantly, he proudly carried the title of "Field Training Officer" which enabled him to use his skills, knowledge and experience to train new officers to serve his community with the same utmost service and respect as he had exhibited.
At the time of his passing, Sgt. Weeks was in the beginning stages of his pursuit to become a Drug and Gang Investigator for the City of Adel. Once again, Josh had put his best foot forward, wholeheartedly volunteering for the position in hopes of making his community as safe as possible.
Survivors include his wife, Carla Weeks of Adel; son, Liam Weeks of Adel; mother, Tina Weeks of Adel; father, Wade (Doris) Weeks of Pelham; sisters, Christy (Justin) Sparks of Lakeland, and Brittany Davis of Pelham; maternal grandparents, James and Carolyn Dozier; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Weeks; mother in law, Tammy Sparks (Bitt Garvitte) of Adel; father in law, Carl Sparks of Alapaha; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home with Jessica Ogletree officiating. The family will be receiving friends two hours prior to the service from 2-4:00 p.m. Serving as active pallbearers will be Adam Jones, James Ogletree, Daniel Ogletree, Justin Crumbley, Joe Gormany, and Jonathan Crumbley. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Adel Police Department.
