Margie Singletary Obituary

The angels have a sweet, sweet spirit in heaven today. All of Heaven rejoiced when they heard the resounding voice of God saying, “Welcome home my good and faithful child.”

On February 5th, 2020, Margie Singletary, loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend passed away at the age of 69 with her husband, children, and sisters by her side.

Marjorie Ann Bentley Singletary was born on September 10th, 1950 in Quitman, GA to James C. “Pete” and the late Bobbie H. “Josie” Bentley. Margie graduated from Valdosta State College with a master’s degree in Business Education. She married her loving husband Ellis M. “Scooter” Singletary in 1979 and they raised their children in Brandon, MS before relocating to Lawrenceville, GA.

Margie was the proud mother of Ben of Decatur, GA and Monty of Baton Rouge, LA, and the beloved sister to Bobbie (Harry) Crook of Eustis, FL and Joyce (Dale) Hughes of Hahira. She is also survived by her father, James C. Bentley Jr., and was preceded in death by her mother, Josie Bentley.

Margie found her calling as an educator and left a lasting impression on countless lives as a kindergarten teacher and director in Brandon, and then continued to apply her passion for helping others as an office administrator in the field of pediatric medicine.

She loved her churches, Sunrise Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, GA and previously Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon, MS.

Margie was loved by those who were fortunate enough to be in her warm presence, and she effortlessly and unselfishly returned that love to all who were in her life.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 10th at 2 p.m. at Quitman First Baptist Church in Quitman, GA with the Dr. Rev. Don Witzel officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends immediately preceding the funeral, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Floral tributes will be accepted, or donations can be made in her honor to the Shriners Hospitals for Children (Hasan Temple, 1822 Palmyra Rd., Albany, GA 31701).
