Robert Rowan Obituary

Robert Calvin Rowan, age 73, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022.  Calvin was born in Cook County, GA on January 16, 1949, to the late William Jessi Rowan, Jr. and Arliss Virginia Rountree. He attended Cook High School and in 1968 was drafted into the Army.

Calvin served in the United States Army as a Spec 4 in the 173rd Airborne from 1968 - 1970. He saw duty in Vietnam in 1969 - 1970 in Quinton, and was wounded in 1970. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star in 1970. He received a Quilt of Valor for his service to our country.

After returning home, Calvin completed high school and was trained as an electrician. Calvin married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Hamner Rowan in 1972. He worked at Weyerhauser, then Sierra Pine, and retired from there in 2013. 

Survivors include a daughter, Christie (Lee) Folsom of Adel; and a son, Christopher Michael (Casey) Rowan of Lumpkin, GA.; grandchildren include Ty Rowan of Lumpkin, Daylin Rowan of Lumpkin, Grant Folsom of Adel, and Thad Folsom of Adel; sister, Jean (Larry) Benischek of Downers Grove, Illinois; and several nieces & nephews. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 41 years, Barbara, who passed away in 2014.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Mr. Dwane Strickland officiating with full military rites. The family will be receiving friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home.
